Strengthening Weaknesses & Correcting Imbalances

I discovered Amy through my sister.  I had just started working out at another place and was making very good progress, but felt I needed to take things up a notch.  I made the decision to join AVC Elite Training, giving it a shot and not really knowing what to expect.Walking dumbell lunges

I had heard how brutal Amy’s Training sessions could be, but when I met Amy she was a sweet person and I thought to myself …”Well, this won’t be that bad.”

I found out very quickly just how out of shape I was as it took me about 1 month before I could make it all the way through one of Amy’s Training Sessions.  When I did complete a full one, I felt incredible.

AVC Elite Training makes you feel like you have really accomplished something just after completing one single training session. It is challenging and tough, but makes you feel great and wanting more.

Amy does everything she can to get each person into shape safely and effectively.  Her training will get you where you want to go in getting you into the best physical condition of your life.

Single leg kettlebell lungeOn a personal level, the one thing I credit her with the most is that I have always had a very weak right shoulder. Due to the type of training and conditioning we do, I have strengthened those weaknesses and imbalances in my body.

I was always embarrassed that I could not bench press much weight. The other day I threw up 225 pounds 10 times. I felt great about that and know that I have made some definite progress in my strength and abilities.

Thank you very much Amy for all the torture you have put me through and all the times you have made me laugh.

I am a 64 old woman who considers herself in decent shape for my age. In the past I have taken aerobics classes, had personal trainers, and participated in Crossfit.  However, by far AVC is the best overall workout I have ever had.

Before we engage in any exercise, Amy or a class member will demonstrate the exercise and Amy will instruct us in proper technique and the “what not to dos”.

I am retiring in April and live about 40 minutes from AVC Elite Training, however I will most definitely continue with AVC Elite Training.

Best Shape of Her Life at 42 years Strong

I have been training with Amy for almost a year now. I have tried many types of aerobics and/or circuit training type classes trying to find something that I enjoyed and challenged me. Since training with Amy, I have gotten my butt out of bed at the crack of dawn 2 days a week with a smile on my face!

Muscle Rope ExerciseI hate getting up early, but bubbly Amy with her TRX, muscle ropes, muscle jump ropes, tabata intervals, agility work, intense core work, squats and lunges, multitudes of strength work with dumbbells, kettlebells, medicine balls, weighted bars and so much more,  makes me want to get up and get going!!

Her guidance, individualized instruction and coaching all pushes each one of us to the limit, but in a safe way as she always places the primary emphasis on form and technique, providing modifications when needed and helping each one of us to be the best that we can be.

There is never a dull moment or an ignored muscle as our entire body is 100% engaged throughout every single session.  The best part for me physically…I now actually have abs that are toned and visible!!!  The hard work is worth it as the payback is huge!

Honestly though, one of my favorite parts of the training is seeing my AVC Elite Training Family each week.  We share blood, sweat and tears (tears from laughing so hard) with our fearless leader Amy…otherwise known as “El Diablo!”

Running Reinvented…

I thought my running days were over years ago. The constant pounding on my joints led to numerous aches and pains and as I got older, it was no longer worth the physical toll.

Hooking up with Amy at the gym 5 years ago was a refreshing change. When she proposed this “natural running” concept in the Spring 2011, all I could picture was running barefoot in the jungle!

I was skeptical, thinking “How could running possibly be reinvented? Running is running!” Amy’s enthusiasm won me over and I gave it a try.

Meeting in the park one Saturday morning, Amy introduced the idea of this new way of running and a whole new set of rules which made perfect sense: For me, it’s all in the foot strike.

A mid-foot landing, right in the center of body mass, makes all the difference in the world!  Newton shoes help tremendously with identifying this magic spot and eliminate all the heel cushion that is not needed to run as the body was made to run.

Other corrections followed: slight lean forward, quick steps, not overdoing the heel kick, using a metronome for proper cadence, arms moving correctly on your side.

Putting all of these adjustments together was not easy, it takes constant attention and practice, but when it comes all together, something clicks and suddenly you know you are running effortlessly, efficiently, safely and so smoothly.

I now look forward to running. I rarely have injuries and look forward to the challenge of all the proper techniques coming together for a good run!

Prepare to be Addicted

I am a 29 year old mother of 3, with my youngest being 10 weeks old. I have always been athletic. I played softball, basketball, volleyball, and ran track and cross-country in my “younger” days. After my third child in 3 years my body had never been so out of shape.

I was desperate to lose some weight and get my body back but nervous that it was never going to be the same. Amy Van Cleve of AVC Elite Training has not only helped me lose 6 pounds in only two weeks of training, but I’m confident that I will soon be in the best shape of my life.

Breaking Bad…Running Habits

Back in 2001 I ran in two marathons for the Leukemia Society. I finished both events but they took their toll on my body. By the time I was done I absolutely hated running.

I swore I would NEVER run again. And I didn’t until about a year or so ago when Amy introduced us to Newton Natural Running. I was very skeptical about this whole natural running thing but because I have the utmost faith in Amy when it comes to my fitness I was willing to give it a try.

What a difference running the natural and correct way can make!  Amy spent a lot of time teaching us the correct form and technique of running.

I had a lot of bad habits that I had to break – can anyone say heal strikes – but with Amy’s expertise, knowledge and patience I learned to recognize and change those bad habits.

Now I run 2–3 times a week and run a minimum distance of 6 miles. The best thing is that I don’t hurt or ache when I’m done, like I did before. That’s the beauty of learning how to run correctly.

I’m not a fast runner but by learning how to run I have significantly improved my pace/time. I am happy to say that today I am a natural runner, and I absolutely LOVE it!
