{"id":1363,"date":"2014-07-03T16:25:53","date_gmt":"2014-07-03T23:25:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/50.28.65.156\/~avcelitetraining\/?p=1363"},"modified":"2016-01-30T09:43:10","modified_gmt":"2016-01-30T16:43:10","slug":"tough-mudder-to-trail-runner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.avcelitetraining.com\/newsite\/tough-mudder-to-trail-runner\/","title":{"rendered":"Tough Mudder to Trail Runner"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have enjoyed working out for many years, but have never been a runner.\u00a0 It always seemed too hard and too boring to me. I did participate in Amy\u2019s Running Programs and Running Clinics which began the process for me in not only <a title=\"Newton Natural Running\" href=\"http:\/\/www.avcelitetraining.com\/newsite\/welcome-to-avc-elite-training\/newton-natural-running-coach\/\">learning how to run properly<\/a>, but actually enjoying running as well.<\/p>\n<p>So when Amy started talking about the Catalina 50k, I initially thought there was no way I could ever do that let alone enjoy it just from the standpoint of it being 31+ miles.\u00a0 But, since I had done the Tough Mudder training with Amy the previous year and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.avcelitetraining.com\/newsite\/redefining-fitness\/\" target=\"_blank\">successfully completed Tough Mudder Arizona with ease<\/a>, I knew she could get me ready for anything.\u00a0 I decided to give it a try.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-1364\" src=\"http:\/\/50.28.65.156\/~avcelitetraining\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Trans-Catalina-Trail-Run.png\" alt=\"Trans Catalina Trail Run\" width=\"192\" height=\"215\" \/>We started out with our endurance running (which at that time definitely included some walking) for about 10 miles on Saturday mornings and eventually worked our way up to 25 miles.<\/p>\n<p>We also had to run on our own during the week and <a title=\"AVC Elite Training Methodology\" href=\"http:\/\/www.avcelitetraining.com\/newsite\/welcome-to-avc-elite-training\/avc-elite-training\/\" target=\"_blank\">participate in the group training <\/a>which proved to be very beneficial when we hit nothing but a series of constant serious steep climbs on the Trans Catalina Trail last April.<\/p>\n<p>Slowly but surely, the running started to get easier, faster, and more fun.\u00a0 The shape of my body even changed. I lost about 10 pounds!<\/p>\n<p>Amy always emphasized the importance of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.avcelitetraining.com\/newsite\/welcome-to-avc-elite-training\/store\/\" target=\"_blank\">proper nutrition and hydration<\/a> throughout our entire training and I followed her advice as best I could. All areas of our training including recovery and a number of the things we needed to do outside of simply the \u201cphysical part\u201d of our training gave me the preparedness needed to complete the 50k.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/50.28.65.156\/~avcelitetraining\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Crushing-Catalina.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1366\" src=\"http:\/\/50.28.65.156\/~avcelitetraining\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Crushing-Catalina.png\" alt=\"Catalina Trail Runners\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.avcelitetraining.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Crushing-Catalina.png 250w, https:\/\/www.avcelitetraining.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Crushing-Catalina-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/a>I managed to stay injury free during the whole process and completed the Catalina 50k with only a few blisters on my feet. What I enjoyed even more was the camaraderie with the people that I trained with.<\/p>\n<p>We had so much<a href=\"http:\/\/www.avcelitetraining.com\/newsite\/tag\/running\/\" target=\"_blank\"> fun when we were out there on the trails for hours and hours<\/a>.\u00a0 It definitely helped the time go by faster.
