I&#8217;ve always been driven and motivated, but was <a title=\"The Ultimate In Cutting Edge Training\" href=\"http:\/\/www.avcelitetraining.com\/\">looking for a way to challenge myself<\/a> even more. I just recently moved to Arizona from the Dakotas and realized there are a lot of things I haven&#8217;t tried fitness wise especially now living in the beautiful Southwest.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/50.28.65.156\/~avcelitetraining\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/trail-running-arizona.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1336\" src=\"http:\/\/50.28.65.156\/~avcelitetraining\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/trail-running-arizona.png\" alt=\"Trail running Mesa Arizona\" width=\"150\" height=\"216\" \/><\/a>I&#8217;ve never been much of a runner\u2026 actually truth be told, I disliked running. \u2028\u2028A good friend of mine invited me on a trail run one day and I was hooked. I had run a marathon before, and told myself &#8220;never again.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Trail running is an entirely different sport than marathon running or road running. There are so many things about it that I love\u2026the scenery and terrain alone make it such a beautiful experience and a nice change from simply running out on the road.<\/p>\n<p>I decided to join <a title=\"AVC Elite Training Methodology\" href=\"http:\/\/www.avcelitetraining.com\/newsite\/welcome-to-avc-elite-training\/avc-elite-training\/\">a training group with a common goal<\/a> in mind while actually <a title=\"About Us\" href=\"http:\/\/www.avcelitetraining.com\/newsite\/welcome-to-avc-elite-training\/about-avc-elite-training\/\">learning from a seasoned, serious coach, Amy Van Cleve<\/a>.\u00a0 I have had the time of my life!<\/p>\n<p>After meeting Amy, I knew it would be a lot of fun, yet challenging. <a title=\"Heart Rate Training\" href=\"http:\/\/www.avcelitetraining.com\/newsite\/welcome-to-avc-elite-training\/sportscience\/heart-rate-training\/\">Amy sent out detailed fueling, hydration and heart rate information weekly<\/a>. It really helped me to make sure I was on track. She called to see how I was feeling after a couple long trail runs. She has so much heart and truly cares and wants you to meet your goals.<\/p>\n<p>I found myself getting hooked on trail running as we continued our training for Catalina. I wanted to go further and get faster which I was accomplishing throughout each trail run. I learned how much is involved in good training such as proper fueling and <a title=\"Newton Natural Running\" href=\"http:\/\/www.avcelitetraining.com\/newsite\/welcome-to-avc-elite-training\/newton-natural-running-coach\/\">becoming a more efficient runner<\/a> by running correctly.<\/p>\n<p>I learned how <a title=\"Foam Rollers\" href=\"http:\/\/www.avcelitetraining.com\/newsite\/foam-rollers\/\">effective foam rolling<\/a> can be along with proper recovery.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve learned so much about my body and all there is involved in becoming a successful runner. It isn\u2019t just about tagging on mileage as I have learned from Amy.<\/p>\n<p>What amazes me is how 3 months ago a 10 mile run left me sore and tired.\u00a0 After learning how to train the \u201cright way\u201d while training under Amy\u2019s coaching and preparing for Catalina, <a title=\"Newton Natural Running\" href=\"http:\/\/www.avcelitetraining.com\/newsite\/welcome-to-avc-elite-training\/newton-natural-running-coach\/\">hitting those long endurance Saturdays of 20+ miles seemed relatively effortless<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>So after a 50k trail run with extremely steep climbs, and serious declines, loose gravel trails and 10 miles of pavement to finish it off, I can honestly say that I feel like a million bucks!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/50.28.65.156\/~avcelitetraining\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/celebrating-catalina-50K.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1337\" src=\"http:\/\/50.28.65.156\/~avcelitetraining\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/celebrating-catalina-50K.png\" alt=\"celebrating Catalina 50K\" width=\"292\" height=\"171\" \/><\/a>It amazed me, to wake up the next morning and didn&#8217;t have an ache, anywhere! I feel I&#8217;ve learned so many valuable lessons along the way. I&#8217;ve definitely learned I&#8217;m capable of so much more than I imagined.<\/p>\n<p>Amy is an awesome coach and will push you with your best interest in mind.\u00a0 She knows everyone is different and we all have different goals.\u00a0 Now with Amy&#8217;s guidance,<a title=\"Catalina 20 Miler and 50K Ultra\" href=\"http:\/\/www.avcelitetraining.com\/newsite\/catalina-20-miler-and-50k-ultra\/\"> I finished a 50k on the Trans Catalina Trail (on Catalina Island)<\/a> which was an amazing experience on all accounts!
